Accountability
Enroll-Today!

Accountability is a valuable part of Sunland's successful home school program and is the heart of our services. This, along with record keeping, testing and discussions with the parents, allows us to supervise and assist in the home schooling process. Terry and Laura Neven are committed to provide support and encouragement without being overbearing.

     ACCOUNTABILITY REQUIRES:

1. Enrolling in Sunland.
2. Determining which courses a student will take, curriculum to be used and style of home school (formal, informal, etc.). While parents have control of these decisions, the school provides direction when needed and general supervision to assure success.
3. Record keeping involves "Yearly Objectives" (for students PreK - 8th grade) or "Course Descriptions" (High School). These forms help to document the plan for each school year's course of study.
4. Monthly accountability can be accomplished by mail, phone, email, or parent meetings, etc. allows families to recieve feedback and counsel in dealing with the issues facing them during the school process. This includes advice concerning child development, communication, behavior and learning difficulties or disabilities. Many times parents also need to receive encouragement that they are doing a good job.
5. Administering an Annual Achievement Testing (in the spring). Grades, 3, 5, 7-12. This provides both the school and the parents with an assessment tool in determining how things are going. While there are variables in the testing process (test phobias, problems with administering the test, tec), they are taken into consideration as well.
6. Complying with local and state education requirements. If there are concerns which arise (Department of Children Services, truancy concerns, etc.) Sunland is prepared to assist each family in understanding the concerns and being advised on how to respond.

This accountability process is required in order to appropriately assist a family with home schooling. Continued participation in this process is necessary for a family to maintain enrollment with Sunland.
