Words of Encouragement

SCS— February 2008

"I should have talked with the office and Mr. Neven much sooner!" "I should have come into the office a long time ago!"

These are comments we hear all the time from families. The truth is we would all like to find solutions on our own, but the Bible says, "Where no counsel is, the people fall: but in the multitude of counselors there is safety" (Proverbs 11:14).

It is difficult at times to disclose to another the challenges you are facing and the feelings you  are experiencing. We try to figure things out for our self (which is admirable), but none of us have all the answers or the experiences which can give us a broader perspective for resolution. We should desire to  hear another person's thoughts about our situation, because their experiences might help us to see things from a different point of view. While we do want to use good judgment as to who we disclose things to,   we shouldn't be embarrassed to share with another. Everyone has personal issues which they don't want others to know.

While a prayerful relationship with the Lord and His Word is invaluable, we should not deny our need  for other's support and advice. "...for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen (I John 4:20)?" God created us with a need to open up to others!

Sometimes families try to think things through and have a final decision about major issues when they haven't pursued a broader range of opinions on the topic. One of our shortcomings as humans is to think we know everything. It is OK to admit to one self and to others that we don't have all the answers. It's OK to believe there might be a different or better solution then the one we have considered.

When you are facing challenges with homeschooling, child development and family issues, or need to brainstorm about your situation, don't forget we are here for you! Besides having seven children of our own, having been involved in homeschooling for the past 26 years, and having worked with over 3000 students, we (and others) can have an open heart and mind to listen to you! We may not have all the answers, but we can provide loving support and encouragement for you to aim for a favorable outcome to what you are facing. You  are not alone!

Sincerely,
Terry and Laura Neven--
