With the passage of the California Home School Ruling it is important for ISP/PSPs to strengthen their administration to maintain and attract homeschooling families. Following are some articles geared to help.

1. Offer a Diploma to Students Who Pass the CHSPEE.

Rather than losing a student who wants to take the CHSPEE, offer them a diploma if they pass. Public schools make this offer.

The state legislators are working to pass a bill which will allow home school programs to issue their own work permits without local school district permission.

3. Consider Requiring an Exit Exam for a Diploma

Since your school’s reputation is invested in your diploma, some schools are requiring an exit exam for a diploma verses a Certificate of Completion.

Have your governing board set the policy to deal with families who are not complying by using the local SARB.

5. Empowering Parent of Teens

Sometimes teens can be motivated by becoming aware of what privileges they could lose. Parents can revoke Learner Permits and the Driver’s License of their minor.
