CHELD (California Home Educators Legal Defense) offers home school legal defense court memberships to families in California. CHELD helps homeschool families deal with contacts from both the local public school and the Department of Children Services. Administrative assistance is also given to the administrator of any Independent Study Program (ISP) or homeschool program which has CHELD members. Families with special needs children can also find support and assistance. Annual cost - $25.00 per family.

Home Schooling and California Laws Home schooling is constitutional and legal in California when accomplished through one of the three following means. While home school groups may hold different perspectives on the law in California, the safest means for home schooling is through a public or private ISP.
